Everything about Coated Paper totally explained

Coated paper is paper which has been coated by a compound to impart certain qualities to the paper, including weight and surface gloss, smoothness or ink absorbency. Kaolinite is most often used for coating papers used in commercial printing, but synthetic or natural organic compounds, such as resins, PVC or starches, may also be used. Coatings may also protect against ultraviolet radiation, or give water resistance and wet-strength.
